Hi,
As mentioned in my previous Post, World Cardmaking Day was established by a Papercraft magazine back in 2006 for the subscribers of their magazine & the date was set as the first Saturday in October.
Over time this special day which is still held on the first Saturday of October has evolved into a worldwide event dedicated to Handmade Cards. It celebrates the value of Handmade Cards & affords the opportunity to take time out to get creative & make & send a Card to someone we care about.
It's true to say that any Card whether bought or made brings joy to the recipient, but, today is about celebrating Handmade Cards. As a Paper Crafter/Card Maker we can easily loose sight of actually how special a Handmade Card is. Just think about when you sit down to make a Card for someone, what do you think about as you start the creative process? Well, first & foremost you are thinking about the recipient, next perhaps you think about the reason for making the Card, then possibly the next step is to think about the colours they like, then we move on to their likes & interests, for example do they like Animals or Plants etc & so the thought process goes on. As you make that Card you are giving of your time, energy & creativity to create something that is totally personalised to a specific individual. Whilst writing a Blog Post for a previous World Card Making Day I came across the following quote from one of the Google Sites I visited which I think sums up World Card Making Day & the values of a Handmade Card perfectly & I quote:-
"Card Making Day reminds us that the best gifts come from the heart & hands & vision of the people we love"
So, this today why not spend a little time getting creative & make & send a Card to someone special just to simply let them know that you are thinking of them.
If you can't spare the time on today to make a Card why not carry the idea over into the days ahead & just send someone you haven't seen in a while or someone you know is struggling a bit a Card just to let them know you care & have been thinking about them.
If you like the sound of this idea but are stuck for ideas or are new to Cardmaking then no worries, Stampin' Up! have the perfect answer in the form of All Inclusive Kits

I never cease to be moved when months after I have sent someone a Card they mention it & say how much they liked it & what it meant to them. I have one friend who I discovered has a special box that she keeps the Cards I have sent to her in. She has for a while been dealing with very difficult times & although I can do nothing to ease the situation I know that periodically a little Card will lift her spirits & make her a smile. So, let's use the idea of World Cardmaking Day to spread a little happiness either today or in the days ahead.
Happy World Cardmaking Day & Happy Crafting
Until next time
Take care
Best wishes
